2006 Mercedes-Benz CLS-Class
"World's first four-door coupe"- Mercedes-Benz
The CLS-Class posseses an eye-catching profile and is what the manufacturer has dubbed as 'the World's first four-door coupe'.
Inspired by the E500 sedan, the radical-upscale CLS-Class with its coupe-style roofline is a 4-seater, with four doors.
With an athletic visage and a level of luxury that almost surpasses the best in its class; this sedan expresses poise and class.
The CLS55; the AMG model is the muscled version of the CLS and caters to a niche market.
The CLS is an all-new addition to Mercedes' line-up for 2006. It has a basic warranty of 48 months/50,000 miles. Others in the segment include; the BMW 5-Series, the Cadillac CTS, the Volvo S60, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Lexus GS.
Engine and Performance
CLS55 AMG with a Supercharged 469hp V8
The CLS-Class sports a 5.0 liter (L) 302 horsepower (hp) V8 with 339 pound-feet (lb-ft) of Torque. It mates with a 7-speed automatic transmission (Sportronic manual-shift). EPA estimated fuel economy amounts to 16/22 mpg (city/highway).
The CLS55 AMG is equipped with a 5.5L 469 hp V8 engine that gives up 516 pound-feet (lb-ft) of Torque. It teams up with a 5-speed AT.
The 7-speed automatic transmission performs admirably, and does particularly well in the Sport Shift mode.
Walkaround
Swooping roofline
The CLS with its coupe-style roofline is offered in one well-appointed trim. Its styling cues are a throwback to the autos of yesteryears with their mild-friendly engines and heavily muscled bodywork.
A robust built gives the CLS500 a much more sporty-refined quality in comparison to the E500.
The CLS 55 AMG is subtly distinguishable from the CLS. It is given the AMG badge; 'V8 Kompressor, ('Supercharged V-8' in English) and is characterized by its 18-inch light-alloy wheels with wide tires, large air inlets adjacent round fog lamps and the two chromed, oval exhaust pipes.

Comfort, Controls and Convenience
Sumptuous luxury
Plush-comfortable amenities make the CLS's interior extremely inviting. Small door openings though hamper entry and exit to the rear seats.
It may be a tad short in the headroom area, but there's ample leg and shoulder room to make it a cushy riding experience.
Short windows give the sedan a closed in feel (one could look at it as snug and cozy too).
Little dashes of chrome and wood trim feature on the doors and center console. The wood trim on the dashboard distinguishes the CLS from the rest of its family.
The standard wood bears a new matte finish that gives it an aura of understated elegance. An optional high-gloss trim caters to those with a yen for glitz and shine.
Standard interior features include; an AM/FM radio, an in-glass radio antenna, tele-aid telematics, a telephone antenna, a tele aid vehicle location system, a power glass tilt and slide sunroof, an interior dust and pollen air filter, rear HVAC ducts, rear seat HVAC controls, automatic climate control with sun sensor, separate driver/front passenger climate controls, front carpeted floor mats, leather located on the shift knob, rear carpeted floor mats, carpets in the passenger cabin and cargo area, and leather steering wheels.

2006 Mercedes-Benz R-Class
Mercedes-Benz R-Class is a very large station wagon, with four conventional opening doors and a top-hinged one-piece tailgate, but it's not a traditional wagon. It has permanent, computer-controlled all-wheel drive, but it's not an SUV. It has three rows of two bucket seats, kind of like a minivan, but it's not a minivan. It's a brand-new entry in a class the company calls grand sports touring.
Its radically sloping roof and sweeping lines help disguise its considerable size. The R-Class is truly cavernous inside and comfortably accommodates six tall adults in six well-accommodated bucket seats. It comes loaded with passive safety features designed to protect occupants in the event of an accident.
It's quiet and comfortable on the highway, and responsive on winding roads. Initially, there will be only two models, the R350 with V6 power and the R500 with V8 power. The R350 is quite responsive, while the R500 is downright fast. Both are packed with all-wheel drive, electronic stability control and other features designed to help the driver maintain control.
